Now that’s a survivor! This woman lived through the Spanish flu, beat cancer, and survived COVID-19 not once but twice!

  • A 102-year-old woman from New York has won the battle with coronavirus twice.
  • She has also survived the 1918 flu, cancer, tragic losses, and many more challenges throughout her life.
  • Her proud daughter believes she is truly “invincible,” as she never stops celebrating life.

Angelina Friedman, a lovely 102-year-old lady from New York, is the human form of the word ‘survivor’.

As CNN reports, when Angelina was just a baby, the 1918 flu was at its peak. What’s more, she was also diagnosed with cancer, but she was stronger than that disease too. Now, the elderly New York resident has beat coronavirus twice, proving that age is just a number.

Her first COVID-19 diagnosis was in March, and her second one was in November.

Friedman’s grateful daughter, Joanne Merola, shares that her mother was born on “a ship coming from Italy during the Spanish flu.” Her birthday was on October 18, 1918.

After the second time Angelina proved to be stronger than coronavirus, Joanne told WPIX:

“My invincible mother tested negative.”

The 102-year-old first tested positive for COVID-19 in March.

According to administrator Amy Elba, Friedman was first diagnosed with coronavirus at the beginning of the pandemic. She was in the hospital for a minor medical procedure, but, unfortunately, her COVID-19 test turned out to be positive.

The then 101-year-old lady spent a week in the hospital before returning to isolate in her room. She had a fever on and off for several weeks. Thankfully, on April 20, she finally tested negative for the virus.

But in late October, the disease struck again. Joanne received a call from the nursing home her mother lives in, informing her that Angelina had tested positive again. She explains:

“She had symptoms – fever, a dry cough. They thought she might also have the flu.”

Understandably, Merola was deeply concerned about her mother’s condition. Until November 17, when she got the happy news that Friedman had tested negative. Joanne proudly said:

“She’s not the oldest to survive Covid, but she may be the oldest to survive it twice.”

Despite having lost most of her hearing and vision, Angelina still knows how to celebrate life!

Friedman is the last surviving out of 11 children. When she battled cancer, her husband was also struggling with the disease. Sadly, he passed away, but his wife managed to overpower her severe condition. But even though she has been through a number of unbearable challenges throughout her life, this sweet, smiling lady never stopped fighting.
