Season 5 of Legends of Tomorrow involved fate, the nature of choice vs. destiny, and how much one person can change the course of human history. Season 6 is about little green men — at least in part.
Co-showrunner Phil Klemmer revealed that there will be a “whole motley assortment” of aliens in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “If these were all Dominators, it would get a little repetitive,” Klemmer said. “So we want to do the same thing we did for magical creatures but for aliens.”
The goal, at least at first, is to let these aliens be bad guys to be defeated. However, Klemmer explains, “We’ll find a way to humanize and find the emotional complexity of Marvin the Martian, and by the time we get to the finale, we’ll have to spend like half our time realizing they weren’t so bad, they were just misunderstood.
Of course, there’s more than aliens to consider for the upcoming season — there’s romance, too. The Legends sometimes seem like they are in a perpetual state of hooking up. Last season we saw Zari 2.0 and Constantine get together, and that story will continue. Klemmer admitted in an interview with TV Guide that “It’s really hard to break stories [for Zari and Constantine] because when you have them fight, who’s supposed to win?”
Not everyone is looking for love, however. Now that Nate has lost both Amaya (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) and Zari, he’s gonna hit the proverbial showers for a bit. “I think he’s probably just given up,” says Klemmer. “He needs to pursue some platonic relationships.”
